September

2021, pen and ink on 9”x 12” stipple texture paper.

September reflects the beginnings of the fall migration; Western Flicker and Canadian Geese flying to warmer climates for the winter, Chinook Salmon travel up the Columbia River to their ancestral waters. The beginnings of early frost cling to spider webs and Painted Lady Butterflies gather the last of the blooming Goldenrod. Oak and Acorns are subject to gravity and the Rosehips are ripe. Snowberries peak out of their green foliage and the mule deer are scratching off the velvet from their antlers. Teasel stands dead and tall in open fields, possibly anchoring an ootheca (Praying Mantis egg) to over winter.
